Featured Photographer - February 2017

Street photography is an absolutely unmarketable and yet un-mistakeable hobby. No-one has ever made a living from it and yet some of the greatest photographers of our time have became noticed through this kind of work. Taking its roots from the reportage style of photography, events are captured in a way that neither hinders or changes the course of what’s happening. Events, people and places are captured in an instant - the photographer then merely steps aside and disappears looking for the next subject to catch their eye.

Although it sounds like I’m over-glamorizing a style of photography that if done incorrectly, may feel a bit intrusive, you only have to look at the works of great artists to see its value. A simple glance at the works of photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson or Vivian Maier and you’ll be able to see that there is such a breadth of emotion exhibited in our streets and without these photographers, this would likely pass by unnoticed, lost and never acknowledged.

Although I’m no master myself, living in a town that sees a large influx of tourists, shoppers and people taking in the sights has presented me an ever changing canvas of subjects. A small selection of scenes that have caught my attention are presented here. Hopefully some may encourage you to keep a watchful eye as you go about your business, if for nothing else other that ensuring no unique moment should pass by unappreciated!
